The left and the media like to throw around words like dictator and authoritarian… while ignoring obvious examples they COULD talk about.
It’s fashionable these days to clutch one’s pearls about how the super-dangerous ‘Mega-MAGA crowd’ is ‘literally Hitler’.
Biden’s allies in politics and media tell elaborate stories about Trump taking office and stripping the rights of all his enemies away… and then they report actual unconstitutional coup attempts as though they were saving America.

Then along comes New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, who issues an ’emergency order’ stripping New Mexican Americans of their Constitutional right to bear arms.
The same press that consistently cranks the panic level up to ‘eleven’ with Trump (including alleging that Trump could be selling nuclear secrets to America’s enemies), barely bats an eye when American citizens in New Mexico had their explicitly-stated Constitutional rights taken away at the stroke of a pen.
That was September.
Now, two Republicans are initiating impeachment proceedings against the Governor for it.
The explanation of their reasoning was short and sweet:
The resolution from Reps. Stefani Lord of Sandia Park and John Block of Alamogordo accuses the governor of violating her oath of office to uphold the state and federal constitutions.
“The point is that she has too much power,” said Lord, founder of the advocacy group Pro-Gun Women. “We’re just trying to say to her, ‘You have too much power, you’re acting like a dictator. … And we’re going to impeach you.’” —AP
There is a very sensible reason the Framers built America’s system with antagonism and opposition between branches of government and between levels of government. They looked at history (both ancient and recent) and learned some hard lessons about when too much power rested in too few hands.
Human nature being what it is, every country will eventually have its share of tyrannical and/or incompetent leaders.
If checks and balances could be used to put a leash on those out-of-control and power-mad leaders… it saves everyone the time and trouble of taking up arms any time you have to throw the bums out.
But those checks and balances can ONLY serve as a deterrent if someone has the cojones to ENFORCE them.
Until recently, most people were too scared to use the political power the Framers gave them.
